Advice to visitors
Visitors entering a high-risk setting should follow the facility’s guidance for mask use.
There are no public health mandated visitor restrictions for ACT residential aged care facilities (RACFs).
However, people who test positive for COVID-19 should not:
- attend a high-risk setting, like hospitals, aged or disability care facilities, or
- visit people at higher risk of severe illness for at least 7 days.
If they cannot delay visits to a high-risk setting, they should seek prior approval from the facility and follow any COVID-19 policies or guidance they have in place.
Additionally, household contacts (people who live with someone who has COVID-19) should avoid visiting people at higher risk of severe illness or high-risk settings, including RACFs.
Where visits cannot be delayed, household contacts are recommended to use a rapid antigen test (RAT) and contact the facility to get approval prior to entry.
People with COVID-19 symptoms also should not attend high-risk settings.
Facilities can implement their own visitor policies in response to their specific circumstances.
Check with the aged care facility that you intend to visit for any additional policies they may have in place for visits.
Visits should not be in any inside communal areas.
Visits should be either in the resident’s room or an outside area.
Entry screening
When visiting an aged care facility, you may be asked a set of screening questions on entry.
If you answer yes to any of the screening questions you may not be able to enter the facility.
The screening questions are subject to change depending on the COVID-19 situation so it is important to check these regularly prior to visiting an aged care facility.
Visitors are encouraged to remember COVID Smart behaviours.
Visitors are recommended to stay up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations and influenza (flu) vaccination.
