COVID-19 vaccines

Vaccination remains the best protection from serious illness and hospitalisation due to COVID-19.

COVID-19 vaccine recommendations are different for different groups of people.

To have the best protection against serious illness from COVID-19, you should get all the recommended COVID-19 vaccine doses for your age and individual health needs.

Visit the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care website for more information on COVID-19 vaccines including eligibility criteria, the latest recommendations, and how to get your vaccination.

Primary doses

Primary doses of a vaccine are the first doses you need for protection against a disease.

Currently, COVID-19 primary course vaccination is recommended for all people aged 18 years or older, and for children aged 6 months to less than 18 years with medical conditions that may increase their risk of severe disease or death from COVID-19.

Most people require 1 dose for their primary course. People with severe immunocompromise are recommended 2 primary doses and can consider a third dose.

Your doctor or immunisation provider can provide individual advice based on your situation.

Further doses

Further doses every 6 or 12 months are recommended or can be considered, depending on an individual’s age and presence of risk factors for severe disease.

Your doctor or immunisation provider can provide individual advice about if and when you should get further COVID-19 vaccine doses.

See Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care- COVID-19 vaccine advice and recommendations for 2024 for more information.
